GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The information in this section provides the body service procedures that apply to the front doors and to the rear doors.

The service attaching screws may not contain a thread-locking compound. Treat the threads of the fasteners with GM P/N 12345493, (Canadian P/N 10953488) or with the equivalent for the following reasons:

    • In order to prevent looseness of the service screws
    • In order to renew the thread-locking characteristics of the production screws

Apply GM P/N 12345493, (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the hardware attachment as a liquid. Upon installation and upon tightening, the adhesive cures in order to bond the attachment in order to prevent the following conditions:

    • Loosening
    • Backing

The adhesive bond does not prevent future attachment removal if required.

The mechanical components of the door assembly are lubricated during assembly. If additional lubrication is required, use the following lubricants:

    • Lubricate all door-lock cylinders with Multi-Purpose Lubricant GM P/N 12346241 , (Canadian P/N 10953474) or with the equivalent.
    • Lubricate the remainder of the door hardware mechanisms with GM P/N 1052196 , (Canadian P/N 5264008) Lubriplate Auto-lube A or with the equivalent.

A waterproof deflector seals the door inner panel and prevents entry of water into the body. The deflector secures to the door inner panel. Peel back the deflector as needed in order to service the door components.
