Tools Required

J 34094-A Thermo Element Height Gage

1. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
2. Remove the filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement .



3. Remove the thermo element retainer and the element.

1. Set the middle thermo pin-height using the J 34094-A .
2. Install the element plate.
3. Install the pin and the washer using the J 34094-A to set up the height of both of the washers. First, set the pin that is furthest from the accumulators. Then set the other pin. This will ensure that both pins will be set correctly.
4. Carefully install the thermo element between the two pins without bending the element too much. "V" in thermo element must be contact the element plate.
5. Install the filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter and Seal Replacement .
6. Install the oil pan. Refer Oil Pan Replacement .
7. Adjust the fluid level.
8. Inspect the vehicle for the following conditions:

•	Proper completion of repairs

•	Proper fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .

•	Fluid leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis and Repair .
