Removal Procedure

    Notice: Make sure all electrical accessories have been turned OFF (i.e. interior lights, underhood lamp, trunk light, illuminated entry, etc.) before turning the test switch knob to the OFF position to avoid damaging the ammeter or an incorrect current reading.

    Important : 

       • Whenever there is a reference to disconnect a battery negative cable or pull a fuse that powers the radio, refer to Audio Systems and Antenna for procedures on unlocking a Delco-Loc II® radio if equipped.
       • Whenever the battery is disconnected, refer to Electrical Diagnosis for procedures on reinitializing of the power sliding door.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable.
  4. Remove the diagonal brace with the washer reservoir attached and locate to the side.

  6. Disconnect the heat shield from the battery.

  7. Object Number: 99335  Size: SH
  8. Remove the battery hold down bolt and retainer.
  9. Remove the battery from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 99335  Size: SH
  3. Install the retainer and hold down bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hold down bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the heat shield over the battery.
  6. Install the diagonal brace and washer reservoir and bolts. Refer to Body Front End.
  7. Connect the battery positive cable.
  8. Tighten
    TIghten the battery positive cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Connect the battery negative cable.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
