Diagnostic Instructions
Circuit/System Description
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the engine coolant temperature indicator when the engine control module (ECM) determines that the coolant temperature is more than 128°C (262°F). The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM
requesting the illumination of the engine coolant temperature indicator. The IPC turns the engine coolant temperature indicator ON and OFF during the display test to verify the indicator is working properly at the start of each ignition cycle.

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, scan tool installed, perform the IPC Displays Test from the IPC Special Functions menu. Verify that all IPC indicators including the engine coolant temperature indicator illuminates and turns OFF after the displays test.
⇒ | If the engine coolant temperature indicator does not perform the displays test, replace the IPC. |
- Ignition ON, verify that the scan tool Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor parameter is less than 248°F (120°C).
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
