The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Radio displays one of the following error messages after keying to RUN or when attempting to access NAV, DEST, or MENU buttons. System typically recovers after one key cycle.

   • 

"Disc Check In Progress"

   • 

"CD / DVD Turned Over"

   • 

"MAP DVD Read Error"

   • 

"Disc Error"

   • 

"The Disc Installed Is Not A MAP DVD"

Radios are being replaced for the error messages listed above. These Error message can be displayed if the DVD map disc or CD has any type of scratches or blemishes on the disc.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Do not replace the navigation radio for any of the listed error messages, engineering is working on a software fix/improvements, and this should be available in the second quarter of 2007. Follow the steps listed below prior to making any repairs.

  1. Duplicate the customers concern first. If the concern can not be duplicated Do Not replace the radio.
  2. Make sure that the DVD map disc or CD is not dirty or scratched. If the DVD map disc or CD is dirty, please clean the DVD map disc or CD and reinstall the disc. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for "Care of your CDs". This will explain how to handle and clean a CD or clean the MAP DVD Disc using instructions in Document ID# 1656123. Replace discs that are severely compromised (e.g. scratches, fingerprints, etc.).
  3. If the map disc can not be ejected from radio because the "Eject MAP Disc" touch screen button is not available, the tilt mechanism can be opened by pressing and holding the radio eject button for 10 seconds while the key in RUN and vehicle in park.
  4. If the DVD or CD is scratched, blemished or cracked, the DVD/CD will need to be replaced.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
