DEFINITION: Courtesy lamps are inoperative from the door jamb switch or switches only.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Open and close all of the vehicle doors.
  3. Observe the courtesy lamps.

Do the courtesy lamps illuminate when each door is opened?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Are the courtesy lamps inoperative from the driver door?

Go to Step 5

Are the courtesy lamps inoperative from all of the passenger doors?

Go to Step 7

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors, except the driver door.
  2. Disconnect the driver door jamb switch.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the door jamb switch signal wire and a good ground.

Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors, except the inoperative door.
  2. Disconnect the inoperative door jamb switch.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the door jamb switch signal wire and a good ground.

Test the passenger door jamb switch signal circuit for an open or high resistance between the body control module (BCM) and splice 290. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the inoperative door jamb switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the inoperative door jamb switch signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative door jamb switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative door jamb switch. Refer to Front Side Door Jamb Switch Replacement or Rear Door Jamb Switch Replacement .
