DEFINITION: This diagnostic table is for problems with rear power windows only. Refer to Power Window Inoperative from Master Switch for front window diagnostics.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Make sure the window lockout feature is not enabled.
  3. Verify that at least one of the rear power windows is inoperative.

Do the rear windows operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Does the inoperative window operate from the master window switch?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the window switch that is in the door that has the inoperative window.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the positive voltage feed circuit at the switch connector and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 13

  1. Disconnect the window switch that is in the door that has the inoperative window.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the up control feed circuit at the switch connector and the down control feed circuit at the switch connector.
  3. On the master switch, press the appropriate window switch to the up position then to the down position.

Did the test lamp illuminate when the switch was pressed to the up position or the down position?

Go to Step 6

Did the test lamp illuminate when the switch was pressed to the up position and the down position?

  1. Reconnect the window switch disconnected earlier.
  2. Disconnect the inoperative window motor connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuits of the inoperative window motor connector.
  4. On the master switch, press the appropriate window switch to the up position then to the down position.

Does the test lamp illuminate for the up condition or the down condition?

Go to Step 8

Did the test lamp illuminate when the switch was pressed to the up position and the down position?

Test the appropriate positive voltage feed circuit to the inoperative window switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 20

Test the control feed circuits between the window switches for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the control feed circuits between the window switches for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the control feed circuits at the inoperative window motor for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the passenger window switch that is in the door that has the inoperative window. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the inoperative window motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in one of the control feed circuits at the inoperative window motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative rear window switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

  1. Connect any disconnected switches and connectors.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
