Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Clean all dirt and foreign material from
the brake hose ends and brake pipe fitting.
- Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting
from the brake hose (2). Cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end and the brake
hose end to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove the hose retaining clip (3) from the front brake hose (2).
- Remove the brake hose-to-caliper bolt (1)
from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake hose (3) from the brake caliper.
- Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets (2). These gaskets
may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end (3).
- Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose (3)
to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the caps or plugs from the opening
in the brake caliper and the brake hose.
Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets (2).
- Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (2), and the brake hose bolt (1),
to the brake hose (3).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt to the brake caliper.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
Important: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted.
- Install the brake hose (2) to the brake hose bracket.
- Install the hose retaining clip (3) to the front brake hose (2).
- Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipe fitting end and the brake
hose end.
- Using a backup wrench on the hose fitting, connect the brake pipe fitting
at the front brake hose (2).
Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension.
Check the hose in extreme right and left turn conditions. If the hose makes contact,
remove the hose and correct the condition.
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
- Lower the vehicle.
