Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement First Design
Removal Procedure
- If replacing the vacuum check valve (1)
and/or the upper vacuum hose, disconnect the vacuum check valve (1) from the
brake booster.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) needs to be separated from the upper
vacuum hose, release and reposition the clamp on the vacuum hose, and remove the valve
from the hose.
- If replacing the vacuum check valve (1), remove the grommet from
the brake booster and discard the grommet.
- Release and reposition the clamp on the upper vacuum hose (2),
and remove the vacuum hose from the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly.
- If replacing the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly,
release the vacuum hose connector retainer (1), then remove the connector from
the vacuum port on the intake manifold.
- Remove the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly
retaining nut (2), and remove the assembly.
Installation Procedure
Important: A small amount of denatured alcohol can be used as an assembly aid when installing
the vacuum check valve and/or grommet. Do NOT use soap.
- If the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly
was removed, install the assembly into position on the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- If the lower vacuum hose and pipe assembly was
removed, connect the vacuum hose connector to the vacuum port on the intake manifold.
Press the retainer (1) down firmly to secure the connector to the intake manifold
port.
- Install the upper vacuum hose to the lower
vacuum hose and pipe assembly. Install and secure the clamp (2) into position
on the hose.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) is being replaced, install a NEW
grommet to the brake booster.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) was separated from the upper vacuum
hose, install the check valve (1) to the vacuum hose. Install and secure the
clamp into position on the hose.
- Connect the vacuum check valve (1) to the brake booster.
Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve and Hose Replacement Second Design
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum check valve (1)
from the brake booster.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) needs to be separated from the vacuum
hose (3), release and reposition the clamp (2) on the vacuum hose (3)
and remove the check valve (1) from the hose (3).
- If replacing the vacuum check valve (1), remove the grommet from
the brake booster and discard the grommet.
- If replacing the vacuum hose, release the vacuum
hose connector retainer (1), then disconnect the connector from the vacuum
port on the engine intake manifold.
Take note of the vacuum hose routing, then remove the vacuum hose from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Important: A small amount of denatured alcohol can be used as an assembly aid when installing
the vacuum check valve and/or grommet. Do NOT use soap.
- If the vacuum hose was removed, install the
vacuum hose into position on the vehicle, as noted prior to removal.
- If the vacuum hose was removed, connect the vacuum hose connector to the
vacuum port on the intake manifold. Press the connector retainer (1) down firmly
to secure the connector to the port.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) is being
replaced, install a NEW grommet to the brake booster.
- If the vacuum check valve (1) was separated from the vacuum hose (3),
install the check valve (1) to the vacuum hose (3). Install and secure
the clamp (2) into position on the hose (3).
- Connect the brake booster vacuum check valve (1) to the brake booster.
