Removal Procedure

Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  1. Raise the hood.
  2. Install protective covers to the fenders in order to prevent damage.

  3. Object Number: 282253  Size: MH
  4. On Pontiac vehicles only, remove the hood headlamp seal screw.
  5. On Pontiac vehicles only, remove the hood headlamp seal (6).
  6. Remove the hood hinge pivot bolts (2).
  7. Remove the hood (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 282253  Size: MH
  1. Install the hood (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Support the hood (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the hood hinge pivot bolts (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the hood hinge pivot bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  6. On Pontiac vehicles only, install the hood headlamp seal (6).
  7. On Pontiac vehicles only, install the hood headlamp seal screw.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the hood headlamp seal screw to 1.3 N·m (11.5 lb in).

  9. Align the hood. Refer to Hood Adjustment .
