Did you perform the Theft Deterrent Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. With a scan tool, command the security indicator ON.

Does the security indicator lamp turn ON and OFF when commanded?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Theft Deterrent

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  2. Probe the security indicator control circuit with a DMM connected to battery positive voltage.
  3. With a scan tool, command the security indicator ON.

Does the DMM read approximately battery voltage?

Go to Step 4

Replace the instrument cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 7

Test for an open or short to in the security indicator control circuit from the BCM to the IPC. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 7

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the body control module.

Replace the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
