Important: The fill limiter vent valve is not serviceable on vehicles with plastic fuel tanks.

Tools Required

J 43288 Fill Limiter Vent Valve Tool

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
3. Drain the fuel tank (1). Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
4. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
5. Remove the fuel vapor pipe quick connect from the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
6. Remove the fuel pipes from the fuel pipe clamp (3).
7. Turn the fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) assembly (2) clockwise using J43288 fill limiter vent valve tool.



8. Remove the fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) assembly from the fuel tank.

Important: The fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) O-ring must be replaced if the fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) assembly is to be reused.

1. Install the fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) assembly to the fuel tank.



2. Turn the fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) counter-clockwise using J43288 .
3. Install the fuel pipes in the fuel pipe clamp (3).
4. Install the fuel vapor pipe quick connect to the fuel sender assembly . Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
5. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Refill the tank.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect for fuel leaks through the following steps:

9.1.	Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.

9.2.	Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.

9.3.	Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

9.4.	Inspect for fuel leaks.
