    • J 28467-380 Engine Lift Hook
    • J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain and recover the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 60047  Size: SH
  6. Install the J 28467-360 .
  7. Remove the upper fasteners from the front cover.

  8. Object Number: 33589  Size: SH
  9. Remove the engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement in Engine-Engine Mechanical.
  10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  11. Remove the right front wheel and the tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Remove the right front fender liner . Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  13. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .

  15. Remove the lower front cover fasteners.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Remove the front cover and the gasket.
  18. Inspect the front cover gasket. Replace the gasket if it is damaged.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 60369  Size: SH
  1. Install the front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable and does not require sealer.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper front cover fasteners.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Install the remaining front cover fasteners.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  8. Lubricate the front oil seal and the sealing surface of the crankshaft balancer with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
  9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
  10. Install the right front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Install the engine mounting bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement in Engine-Engine Mechanical.
  15. Install the engine mount assembly. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  16. Remove the J 28467-400 Engine Lift Hook and the J 28467-360 .
  17. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  18. Install the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  19. Fill cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
