LOSS OF A/C FUNCTION DUE TO A/C PIPE CRACKING (BRACE KIT)
Some customers may comment about a lack of air conditioning function. This may be due to a crack in the A/C discharge line between the compressor block fitting and the A/C muffler, causing a loss of refrigerant.
If this condition is diagnosed, the compressor suction and discharge hose assembly should be replaced following the procedure in Section 1B1 of the chassis service manual, and the system charged with refrigerant following the procedure in Section 1B of the chassis service manual. After the replacement hose assembly has been installed and the system has been charged, the A/C system should be checked for proper function.
To prevent this condition from reoccurring, a service brace kit, P/N 22545036, should be installed. See Figure 1.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
