COOLER PIPE BUZZ OR MOAN 125C NOISE AFTER TCC ENGAGED

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-86 'J' AND 'N' SERIES

A condition of transaxle cooler line buzz or moan after torque converter clutch engagement may be encountered.

To repair this condition:

'J' MODEL ONLY:

Remove and discard the metal clip which holds the cooler lines together and install part no. 22536646 plastic clip in its place.

'J' AND 'N' MODELS

Position cooler pipes so they do not contact each other or touch adjacent components such as the transaxle case.

Inspect radiator tank for contacting and vibrating against the radiator support panel. If contact is evident, bend vertical radiator support panel forward as necessary for adequate clearance to radiator tank.

Notice: It will be necessary to drive the car to determine correction effectiveness as some noise may still be evident if vehicle is evaluated while being operated on a raised lift.

'N' MODEL ONLY:

If the noise condition is still evident, replace the lower cooler line hose assembly with a new longer hose assembly, part no. 22535961. Retain hose to engine compartment side rail with clip, part no. 8917937. See Figure 1.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
