END OF EXCHANGE PROGRAM INFORMATION

COMPLETION OF EXCHANGE PROGRAM

ALL 1986-1/2 FIERO, 1987-88 6000, SUNBIRD, GRAND AM, AND FIERO, AND 1988 GRAND PRIX MODELS EQUIPPED WITH HM-282 MANUAL TRANSAXLE (RPO MG1 AND MG2)

BULLETIN COVERS: (Figure 1) ---------------- Field service of the 1986 1/2 through 1988 HM-282 manual transaxle is currently on the exchange program. The exchange program is scheduled to end December 31, 1987. After this date, dealerships will be required to overhaul these units. However, dealerships will be able to overhaul this unit before the exchange program is over, once all five items listed under Service Action are completed.

SERVICE ACTION:

1. Product Service Training:

HM-282 - Course Number 17004.04 (1 day class)

NOTE: Videotape overhaul "refresher" on this unit will be available from Kent-Moore mid November, 1987.

2. Essential Service Tools:

All remaining essential tools will be shipped from Kent-Moore in late October, 1987.

Important: A small (toaster) oven is required to service this unit, but is not listed as an essential tool. The oven is used to prevent part damage during assembly. Dealerships should obtain an oven before servicing this unit.

3. Service Parts:

The service parts/overhaul packages will be available through GM Service Parts Operation (GMSPO) after mid November, 1987.

4. Labor Time Guide:

HM-282 - Will be issued late September, 1987.

5. Service Manuals:

HM-282 - All the product line service manuals will be at dealerships before the end of December, 1987.

Note: A bulletin will be issued late October, 1987 that will show the differences between the 1986 1/2, 1987 and 1988 model years.
