- Install the governor body gasket (410).
- Install the governor body (407).
- Install the governor body bolts (416).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

Tools Required
J 36850 Transjel® Transmission Assembly
Lubricant
- Apply a thin coat of J 36850
to
the primary and secondary valves.
- Install the following items into the governor body
(412):
• | The primary valve (415) |
• | The secondary valve (413) |
• | The secondary spring (414) |
• | The secondary valve retainer (411) |
- Install the governor fluid screen (2) into the governor
hub (1).
- Install a new governor assembly gasket and a governor
assembly (1) into the governor hub.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the four governor assembly bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the governor assembly bolts to 9 N·m
(80 lb in).
- Apply a thin coat of the J 36850
to the governor seal rings (406) on the governor hub (408).
- Install the governor hub (408) onto the transmission
output shaft.
- Install the governor ring (417).
- Install the speedometer drive gear (2) onto the transmission
output shaft (3).
- Install the two speedometer drive gear retaining rings (1).
- Install the transfer adapter case to the transmission case, if the vehicle
is four-wheel drive equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Mount Replacement in Driveline/Axle.
- Instal the extension housing to the transmission case, if the vehicle
is two wheel drive equipped. Refer to
Extension Housing Installation
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Refill the transmission as necessary. Refer to
Transmission Fluid Pan Installation
.
