  1. Install the speedometer driven gear guide seal (604) and seal retainer (608), if necessary.
  2. Install the speedometer driven gear (602) into the driven gear guide (603).
  3. Install the speedometer driven gear guide (603) assembly into the extension housing (119).
  4. Install the speedometer driven gear guide bracket (607).
  5. Install the guide bracket bolt (605) and washer (606).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9.5 N·m (85 lb in).

J 36850 Transjel® Transmission Assembly Lubricant

  1. Apply a thin coat of J 36850 to all speedometer driven gear components prior to assembly.

  2. Object Number: 166256  Size: SH
  3. Install a new speedometer driven gear case lip seal into the speedometer driven gear case (2).
  4. Install the speedometer driven gear (1) into the speedometer driven gear case (2).
  5. Install the speedometer driven gear case (2) into the extension housing.

  6. Object Number: 166253  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the speedometer guide bracket and the speedometer guide bracket bolt (1) to the extension housing.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the speedometer guide bracket bolt (1) to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. Connect the speedometer cable (2) to the speedometer driven gear case.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
