  1. Remove the governor body bolts (416).
  2. Remove the governor body (407) and the governor body gasket (410).
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  2. Remove the extension housing from the transmission case (two-wheel drive models). Refer to Extension Housing Removal .
  3. Remove the transfer adapter case from the transmission case (four-wheel drive models). Refer to Transfer Case Mount Replacement in Driveline/Axle.

  4. Object Number: 166342  Size: SH
  5. Remove the following items from the transmission output shaft (3):
  6. • The two speedometer drive gear retaining rings (1)
    • The speedometer drive gear (2)

    Object Number: 180655  Size: SH
  7. Install the governing ring (417) onto the transmission output shaft.
  8. Install the governor hub (408).

  9. Object Number: 166352  Size: SH
  10. Remove the governor assembly bolts (2) from the governor hub (3).
  11. Remove the governor assembly (1) and the governor assembly gasket.

  12. Object Number: 166357  Size: SH
  13. Remove the governor fluid screen (2).

  14. Object Number: 181654  Size: SH
  15. Remove the following from the governor body (412):
  16. • The secondary valve retainer (411)
    • The secondary spring (414)
    • The secondary valve (413)
    • The primary valve (415)
  17. Clean all of the governor components with solvent. Allow the components to air dry.

  18. Object Number: 182730  Size: SH
  19. Inspect the governor hub seal rings (406) for cuts or other damage. Replace the rings as necessary.

  20. Object Number: 181654  Size: SH
  21. Inspect the primary (415) and the secondary (413) valves for nicks and burs. Replace the governor assembly as necessary
  22. Inspect the fluid passages and valve bores in the governor body for nicks, burrs or varnish. Replace the governor assembly as necessary.
