1981 OWNERS MANUAL CORRECTION THE 1981 OMEGA OWNERS MANUAL CONTAINS INCORRECT INFORMATION ON PAGE 64 REGARDING CLUTCH PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. REFER TO FIG. 6 FOR THE CORRECT PROCEDURE AND AN EXAMPLE OF THE INSERT WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE GLOVE BOX. IMPORTANT NOTICE ON CLUTCH PEDAL ADJUSTMENT YOUR OMEGA OWNER'S MANUAL CONTAINS INCORRECT INFORMATION ON PAGE 64 REGARDING CLUTCH PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO HELP ASSURE PROPER OPERATION OF YOUR MANUAL TRANSAXLE CAR. THE CLUTCH PEDAL SHOULD BE ADJUSTED EVERY 5,000 MILES (8000 KILOMETERS) OR LESS. TO ADJUST, SIMPLY PULL THE PEDAL UPWARD UNTIL IT STOPS. YOU CAN DO THIS USING YOUR HAND, OR BY PULLING UP WITH YOUR FOOT UNDER THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THEN, SLOWLY PRESS THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND RELEASE IT. YOU MAY HEAR A "CLICK" DURING THE ADJUSTMENT. WHEN PROPERLY ADJUSTED, THE PRESSURE OF ONE FINGER SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO PUSH IN THE CLUTCH PEDAL ABOUT 25 MILLIMETERS (ONE INCH) BEFORE THE CLUTCH ACTUALLY BEGINS TO DISENGAGE. (THIS IS CALLED "FREE TRAVEL.") IF THERE IS LITTLE OR NO FREE TRAVEL, OR IF THE PEDAL IS EXCEPTIONALLY HARD TO PUSH IN, SEE YOUR OLDSMOBILE DEALER. KEEP THIS INSERT IN THE GLOVE BOX WITH THE OTHER OWNER INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH YOUR CAR. IT SHOULD REMAIN WITH THE CAR WHEN SOLD, TO PROVIDE THE NEXT OWNER WITH IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE INFORMATION.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
