ENGINE CHUGGLE OR SURGE DURING 3RD/4TH GEAR WITH TCC ENGAGED

1985 PARISIENNE WITH 4.3L LB4 ENGINE

Customer driveability comments of chuggle or surge may occur on some 1985 Parisienne models equipped with 4.3L LB4 engines built prior to November, 1984. Chuggle or surge occurs when the transmission is in high gear and the TCC is engaged. This condition is most noticeable at 32-35 mph on three speed transmissions and 45-50 mph on four speed transmissions when the throttle is held steady and the engine is under a light load such as climbing a slight grade.

This condition can be repaired by installing a new inlet manifold, P/N 14094012, and a new EGR valve, P/N 17111294.

NOTICE: The new intake manifold and EGR valve were installed as a coordinated change. A check of the EGR valve part number should eliminate the possibility of more than one component change on any one engine.

The procedures to be followed for this repair are detailed in the appropriate section of the Service Manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
