Body Side Door Molding Replacement Oldsmobile

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun

1. Use a J 25070 152 mm (6 in) to heat the body side molding.



2. Use a circular motion for 30 seconds to apply the heat.

Notice: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/name plate.

3. Use a plastic flat-bladed tool to remove the molding from the surface.



4. Use a 3M Scotch-Brite® molding adhesive remover disk, 3M P/N 07501 or the equivalent to remove all the adhesive from the body panel and from the back of the molding.
5. Wash the panel area with soap and water and wipe dry.
6. Use Varnish Makers and Painters (VM&P) naphtha to remove all the traces of adhesive from the body panel and from the back of the molding.

1. Use a J 25070 to warm the body panel if necessary.

Important: 

•	Do NOT touch the exposed adhesive tape with your hands.

•	Do NOT allow any dirt or foreign material to touch the exposed adhesive tape.

2. Remove the protective liner from the front of the molding.
3. Position the molding to the body panel.



4. Align the locating pins into the holes in the body panel starting with the front hole.
5. Press the molding to the body panel while continuing to remove the backing.



6. Hand roll the molding to the body panel to ensure proper adhesion.
7. Ensure that the molding ends do NOT overlap the following components:

•	The door edge

•	The door edge guard

•	The lock cylinder

•	Body openings

8. Inspect the molding ends for bonding.
9. Hand roll the loose ends.

Body Side Door Molding Replacement Pontiac

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover.

J 25070 Heat Gun.

1. Open The door.
2. Using J 38778 remove the body side door molding to lower body side door molding push-in retainer.




Important:  Do not flex the body side door molding more than 102 mm (4 in) when separating the body side door molding from the outer door.

3. Using J 25070 , heat the lower edge of the body side door molding using a circular motion 152 mm (6 in) from the body side door molding for 60 seconds.



4. In order to separate the body side door molding from the lower body side door molding retainer, pull the lower edge of the body side door molding out from the lower body side door molding retainer.
5. Using J 38778 separate the lower outer edges of the body side door molding from the outer door panel.
6. Pull the center of the body side door molding out evenly to release the body side door molding from the body side door molding upper retainer.
7. Lift the body side door molding up to release the body side door molding from the edge of the body side door molding upper retainer.
8. Remove the body side door molding from the door.

1. Position the upper edge of the body side door molding to the upper body side door molding retainer.
2. Press down on the upper edge of the body side door molding into the upper body side door molding retainer until fully seated.
3. Press in on the center of the body side door molding with both hands and continue to press outward until the body side door molding is fully seated into the body side door molding upper retainer.
4. Position the body side door molding lower outer edge push-in retainers to the openings in the outer door panel.
5. Press in on the body side door molding lower outer edges until fully seated into the outer door panel.
6. Position the lower edge of the body side door molding to the body side door molding lower retainer.
7. Press in on the lower edge of the body side door molding until fully seated.
8. Install the body side door molding to lower body side door molding push-in retainer.
9. Close the door.
