Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system, if equipped. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  3. Remove the turn signal switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement.
  4. Remove the wiper switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.
  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement.
  6. Place match marks on the intermediate shaft and the steering column shaft.

  7. Remove the intermediate shaft upper pinch bolt (1).

    8. Object Number: 1631465 Size: SH
  8. Remove the steering column lower nuts (1, 2).

    9. Object Number: 1631487 Size: SH
  9. Remove the steering column upper nuts (1) and washers.
  10. Remove the steering column.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the steering column in the vehicle.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1631487 Size: SH

    Note: Align the match-mark on the intermediate shaft and the steering column shaft.

  2. Install the steering column upper nuts (1) and washers and tighten to 17.5 N·m (12.91 lb ft).

    3. Object Number: 1631465 Size: SH
  3. Install the steering column lower nuts (1, 2) and tighten to 17.5 N·m (12.91 lb ft).

    4. Object Number: 1631494 Size: SH
  4. Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt (1) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  5. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement.
  6. Install the wiper switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.
  7. Install the turn signal switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement.
  8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  9. Enable the SIR system, if equipped. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
