Condition

Some customers may comment on all of the following conditions:

    • Brake System Light On
    • Antilock Brake System (ABS) Light On
    • Traction Control System Light On
    • Service Brake System Message Displayed on DIC
    • Service ABS System Message Displayed on DIC
    • Service Traction System Message Displayed on DIC
    • Service Stability System Message Displayed on DIC

Upon investigation, the technician will find DTCs C0241, C0550 and P0856 set as current.

Cause

This condition may have been induced by the customer resetting the tire pressure monitoring system using the DIC. While driving, if a customer attempts to reset the tire pressure monitoring system and pushes the set/reset button twice within three seconds, this causes the processor within the EBTCM to set all of the DTCs. This occurs because the internal processor cannot perform the update and check tire pressure that quickly.

Correction

Perform the following procedure to determine if the above conditions were induced by the customer.

  1. Install the Tech 2® to the vehicle and verify that the only DTCs set are C0550, C0241 and P0856. If other DTCs are set, follow Strategy Based Diagnosis to determine fault.
  2. Cycle the ignition two times. The I/P warning lights and DIC messages should go away.
  3. Clear the current DTCs.
  4. Drive the vehicle for at least 3.22 km (2 miles).
  5. Check for DTCs. If the codes do not reset, then the DTCs were most likely induced by the customer. Please inform the customer that if the "Check Tire Pressure" message did not appear in the DIC and the set/reset button is pressed, the tire pressure monitoring system will reset but the DIC will not acknowledge the system has been reset with any message. This information is also found in Section 3 of the Owner Manual under Driver Information Center (DIC).
