Subject:Service VME - Remote Start and HVAC Operation

Models:2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

SERVICE VME

This is a product service message going to all Pontiac dealers regarding 2005 Grand Prix GXP and the operation of the air conditioning system during a remote start event. Some customers may comment that the air coming from the center vents is not cold during a remote start event. The cause of this condition is the electronic control module or ECM, is not sending the signal to turn on the A/C compressor during the remote start event. The A/C system WILL TURN ON to the last customer setting before key off, after the customer enters the vehicle, installs the ignition key and turns it to the run position.

We are aware of this condition and are validating a new ECM calibration to correct the condition. Vehicles built after May 26, 2005 already have the new calibration. There are no repairs you can do to correct this concern until the new calibration is available. A service bulletin will be published when the new calibration is ready for release. This is Fred Tebbets Grand Prix Brand Quality Manager and thanks for you patience on this issue.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
