Subject: | 2004-2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Front Suspension Noise from Strut Support |
Models: |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
Intermittent pop, clunk, or thud heard and/or felt in the front floor pan area on either the driver or passenger side of the vehicle. The noise may be most prevalent during acceleration, deceleration, or when shifting the vehicle from drive to reverse or reverse to drive.
On the initial test drive, the noise may appear to be coming from the cradle, cradle mounts, lower control arms, struts, or even the transmission. However, use of chassis ears at these points will reveal them not to be the source of the noise.
The noise may be coming from movement in the front fender upper diagonal brace at either the radiator support or the strut tower.
Inspect the front fender upper diagonal brace bolts at the radiator support and at the strut tower for evidence for movement. If evidence of movement is found, loosen both bolts of the affected brace and torque them to 47N·m (35 lb ft). The front fender upper diagonal braces can be viewed in SI Document ID # 604654. Drive the vehicle to confirm the concern is repaired.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
