A/C Not Cold Enough, A/C Blows Warm Air, A/C Inoperative (Replace A/C Condenser and Add Washers)

Subject:AC Not Cold Enough, AC Blows Warm Air, AC Inoperative (Replace AC Condenser and Add Washers)

Models:2004-2005 Pontiac Grand Prix
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 51179634

Condition

Some customers may comment that the AC blows warm air. Upon investigation, the technician may find that the vehicle has low or no refrigerant charge.

Cause

This condition may be due to the lower condenser inlet line rubbing on the left side frame (cradle) insulator reinforcement bolts causing a hole.

Correction

Replace the condenser and add two 3 mm thick washers, P/N 11515345, to each bolt securing the left side frame (cradle) insulator reinforcement. Adding these washers will move the bolts away from the inlet line so contact will not occur. Use the procedure listed below.

    Object Number: 1555057 Size: SH
  1. Verify that the contact exists by removing the air cleaner assembly and visually inspecting the lower inlet condenser line at the suspect area. The area where the contact may occur is at the bend (1) just before the line goes into the condenser.
  2. If contact exists, then this is the likely cause of the refrigerant loss; replace the condenser. Refer to the Condenser Replacement procedure in the Service Manual (SI Document ID #1228383).

  3. Object Number: 1555058 Size: SH
  4. Through the front air baffle, remove the two left side frame (cradle) insulator reinforcement bolts (1) and add two 3 mm thick washers, P/N 11515345, to each bolt. Reinstall and finger tighten the bolts.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 20N·m (15 lb ft).
