Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: In order to prevent SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, do not strike the door or the door pillar in the area of the side impact sensor (SIS). Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key when performing service in the area of the SIS.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Lower the headliner to access the inflator module. Refer to
Headlining Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Release the connector positive assurance (CPA) (1) on the inflator harness connector (2).
- Disconnect the harness connector (2) from the inflator (3).
- Remove the headliner electrical harness push-in connector from the inflator bracket.
- Remove the screws (1) from the roof rail module.
- Remove the push-in retainer (2) from the inflator bracket (1).
- Remove the screw (3) from the inflator bracket.
- Remove the roof rail module from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface. Inspect the nuts and replace if necessary.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Caution: Apply Loctite 242® Threadlocker US P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489),
or equivalent, on all restraint bolts/nuts before installation. Failure to use such
threadlocker correctly may result in personal injury.
Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Before
applying power to the SIS make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe
the correct installation procedures could cause SIR deployment, personal injury,
or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Install the inflator bracket screw (3).
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the inflator bracket push-in retainer (2).
Important: Make certain the roof rail module is not twisted when installed.
- Position the roof rail module over the sail panel bracket (4).
Important: The sunroof drainage hoses must be routed outboard of the roof rail module.
- Install the inflatable restraint roof rail module screws (1).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the harness connector (2) to the inflator (3). Engage the CPA.
- Install the headliner electrical harness retainer to the inflator bracket.
- Install the headliner. Refer to
Headlining Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping
.
