Unwanted Intermittent Door Lock Activation (Reprogram BCM)

Subject:Unwanted Intermittent Door Lock Activation (Reprogram BCM)

Models:2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Condition

Some customers may comment that the door locks intermittently attempt to lock while driving, even through they are already locked.

Correction

Normal operation of the door relock system on the 2004 Grand Prix is a little different than other vehicles. For example, if you open and close the door while the vehicle is in any gear selection other than Park, the doors will not relock until the vehicle reaches 40 km/h (25 mph). That speed is much higher than the 11-14 km/h (7-9 mph) that most other vehicles are programmed to relock. When diagnosing, be sure the condition is verified with the customer and the customer understands the relock operation on this vehicle.

If the customer is still sure the door locks are cycling on their own and the concern can be duplicated, reprogram the BCM with an updated software calibration. This new service calibration was released with TIS satellite data update version 5.5, available May 16, 2005. As always, make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.
