Subject: | Noise: Tone, Whine, Whistle, or High Pitched Hum Heard Through Speakers on Radio AM Band (Replace BCM) |
Models: | 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix |
The subject of this bulletin has been revised to improve its searchability in SI. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-47-002 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).
Some customers may comment on a high pitched noise or humming while listening to the AM band of the vehicle's radio. This tone is most noticeable on weak or distant stations and when driving under bridges.
Important: If this condition is found to only exist with the rear window defroster on, do not perform the repair outlined below.
You should not confuse this concern with a static or crackling sound in the radio when the Rear Window Defroster is in operation. Static or Increased Interference with the Rear Window Defroster On is a separate issue and the subject of Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-44-005B. If this condition is found to only exist with the rear window defroster on, do not perform the repair outlined below.
The internal circuitry of the BCM (Body Control Module) may radiate some Radio Frequency Emissions. Due to the proximity of the BCM to the radio antenna, this interference may be picked up as a high pitched hum.
Important: If the vehicle is already equipped with a BCM with P/N 10352463, don't replace the BCM. Refer to the diagnostics in SI in order to correctly diagnose the noise concern.
Replace the BCM with a revised BCM, P/N 10352463. For specific repair procedures, please refer to Body Control Module Replacement in the 2004 Grand Prix Service Information.
