Info - Clearing Theft System DTCs in the BCM After System Repair to Remove Theft System Message

Subject:Clearing Theft System DTCs in the BCM After System Repair to Remove Theft System Message

Models:2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

A Service Theft System message may display on the DIC after a theft system repair has occurred.

After a repair of the theft system, the BCM will maintain the system fault or DTC as current for seven (7) ignition cycles. This will cause the Service Theft System message to be displayed on the DIC after a repair.

DO NOT REPLACE THE BCM.

Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs in the BCM. This will immediately clear the fault condition and the Service Theft System message.

If a scan tool is not available, after correcting a theft system fault, cycle the ignition key on and off seven (7) times to clear the system and the DIC message. The DTC will be transitioned to history.
