J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.

  4. Loosen the suction hose nut (2) at the accumulator.
  5. Disconnect the suction hose from the accumulator.

  6. Object Number: 409178  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut (1) from the accumulator.
  8. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.

  9. Object Number: 409571  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.

  11. Object Number: 409575  Size: SH
  12. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.
  13. Remove the accumulator from the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 409575  Size: SH
  1. Install the accumulator to the mounting bracket.

  2. Object Number: 409571  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator bracket clamp bolt to 4 N·m (36 lb in).

  5. Install the accumulator.
  6. Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator bracket retaining bolt to 4 N·m (36 lb in).

    Important: Coat the new O-ring seals and seal washers with a mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  8. Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the suction hose. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 409336  Size: SH
  10. Connect the suction hose onto the accumulator.
  11. Tighten the suction hose nut (2).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the suction hose nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).


    Object Number: 409178  Size: SH
  13. Connect the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
  14. Install the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut (1) onto the accumulator.

    Tighten
    Tighten the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  16. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component usingJ 39400-A .
