J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the front fender upper diagonal. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  4. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  5. Object Number: 379828  Size: SH
  6. Loosen the condenser tube nut from the condenser.

  7. Object Number: 379830  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the condenser tube from the condenser.
  9. Remove the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut from the condenser.
  10. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.

  11. Object Number: 282839  Size: SH
  12. Remove the condenser.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 282839  Size: SH
  1. Install the condenser.
  2. Important: Coat the new O-ring seals with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  3. Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the condenser tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 379830  Size: SH
  5. Connect the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut to condenser.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Connect the condenser tube to the condenser.
  10. Install the condenser tube block fitting nut to the condenser.

    Tighten
    Tighten the condenser tube block fitting nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  11. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  12. Install the front fender upper diagonal. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Leak test the fittings of the component usingJ 39400-A .
