Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L
Tools Required

Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the A/C compressor
hose nut (1) and the hose from the condenser.
- Remove the A/C compressor
hose nut (2) and hose from the accumulator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the nut and the
A/C compressor hose assembly at the A/C compressor.
Important: Remove and discard all the used O-ring and sealing washers.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the A/C compressor hose assembly.
Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
- Install the new O-ring seal to the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer
to
O-Ring Replacement
.
Install the new sealing washers. Refer to
Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement
.
- Install the A/C compressor
hose assembly to the rear of the A/C compressor.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the A/C compressor
hose assembly nut.
Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Install the lower air
deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the A/C compressor
hose nut (2) to the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the A/C compressor
hose and nut to the condenser.
Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Remove the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A
.

Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to

- Remove the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the A/C compressor
hose nut (1) and the hose from the condenser.
- Remove the A/C compressor
hose nut (2) and hose from the accumulator.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the nut and the
A/C compressor hose assembly at the A/C compressor.
Important: Remove and discard all the used O-ring and sealing washers.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the A/C compressor hose assembly.
Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity

- Install the new O-ring seal to the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer

Install the new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly.

- Install the A/C compressor
hose assembly to the rear of the A/C compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the A/C compressor
hose and nut to the condenser.
Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Remove the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls.

- Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A
