The PASSKey III vehicle theft deterrent system deters drive-away vehicle theft. This system enables vehicle operation only when the ignition key mounted identification device, also known as the PASSKey III coded key, is properly identified. This system provides these vehicle theft deterrent features:

    • A PASSKey III coded key interface.
    • A fuel enable control.
    • A control of the SECURITY indicator lamp located in the instrument panel cluster.
    •  Class 2 serial data communications interface available at the Data Link Connector (DLC) for diagnostic purposes.

This system contains a theft deterrent module, which provides the following major functions:

    • Allows for normal fuel delivery to the engine upon detection of a valid PASSKey III coded key.
    • Notifies the driver of the system status through the SECURITY indicator lamp located in the instrument panel cluster.
    • Provides diagnostics via Class 2 serial data through the Data Link Connector (DLC).

The interface between the theft deterrent module and the PASSKey III coded key is non-contacting. The theft deterrent module accommodates up to 10 keys, each with an identification code. The valet key is electronically distinguishable from a regular key. The valet key has a gray head and a regular (master) key has a black head.
