The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system (UA6) contains
the following components:
• | The Body Control Module (BCM) type 4 |
• | The door lock cylinders |
• | The rear compartment lock cylinder |
• | The theft deterrent relay |
• | The key cylinder lock switches |
• | The keyless entry system |
• | The power door lock switches |
• | The rear compartment courtesy lamp switch |
• | The rear compartment lock cylinder switch |
Body Control Module (BCM)
The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the content theft deterrent system.
The BCM monitors the status of the following components:
• | The keyless entry system |
The BCM operates the following components, according to the chosen
mode of operation:
• | The status security LED |
Inspecting for the Correct BCM Type
Complete the following steps in order to determine the BCM type installed
in the vehicle:
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the MALL PGM fuse.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
The seat belt indicator flashes and the chime sounds 2, 3 or 4 times.
The number of chimes indicates the BCM type that is installed in the vehicle.
Verify that a BCM type 4 is installed on a vehicle with RPO UA6. Refer
to the Service Parts Identification Label and the RPO Code list.
If the vehicles has RPO UA6 but is not equipped with BCM type 4, install
a BCM type 4.
Key Cylinder Lock Switch
The door key cylinder locks have integral switches that signal the BCM
to disarm the content theft deterrent system.
Rear Compartment Lock Cylinder
The rear compartment lock cylinder has an integral switch that sends
a signal to the BCM when the rear compartment lock cylinder is removed from
the rear compartment lid.
Security LED
The BCM controls the operation of the security LED. The security LED
may be in one of the following modes:
- On
- Off
- Flashing slow
- Flashing fast
The security LED mode depends on the content theft deterrent system
mode.
Shock Sensor
The shock sensor sends a tamper signal to the BCM if an impact to the
vehicle occurs which is considered to be a vehicle tamper condition or causes
glass breakage.
Theft Deterrent Relay
The BCM controls the theft deterrent relay. The headlamps turn on during
certain modes of operation.
