Vehicle Theft Deterrent System (Pass-Key III)

Use a scan tool in order to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the theft deterrent module.

Refer to the scan tool user manual for instructions on using scan tool diagnostics.

Content Theft Deterrent System (UA6)

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  2. Remove the MALL PGM fuse.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ACC. At this point, the Body Control Module (BCM) sounds the chime and flashes the fasten belts indicator four times. This indicates that the vehicle has a BCM type 4, which is equipped with the content theft deterrent option UA6.
  4. Cycle the ignition switch from ACC to LOCK, back to ACC within one second. This action causes the BCM to enter the diagnostic mode:
  5. • If no DTCs are stored in memory, the BCM will not flash any DTCs.
    • If any DTCs are stored in memory, the BCM will sound the chime and flash the fasten belt indicator a number of times equal to the DTC, starting with the lowest number first, then to the highest.
    • When all DTCs are displayed, the BCM will repeat this sequence three times.
    • For a list of the DTCs related to the content theft deterrent system, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List/Type

In order to exit the diagnostic mode:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  2. Reinstall the MALL PGM fuse.
