  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster head-up display (HUD) harness connector.
  3. Use a digital multimeter (DMM) in order to measure the continuity between the instrument cluster HUD harness connector terminal B3 and ground.
  4. While measuring the resistance, cycle the E/M switch.

Does the DMM show a short to ground?

  1. Ensure that the digital multimeter (DMM) is connected between the instrument cluster HUD harness connector terminal B3 and ground.
  2. Disconnect the trip calculator harness connector.

Does the DMM show a short to ground?

Go to Step 3

  1. Repair CKT 811 for a short to ground.
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Press the ENG/MET switch on the trip calculator.

Does the DMM show continuity to ground when the ENG/MET switch is pressed?

Go to Step 8

Inspect CKT 811 for an open, a poor connection, or a short to B+ between the instrument cluster HUD harness connector and the trip calculator harness connector.

Is CKT 811 open, showing any signs of excessive resistance, or shorting to B+ between the instrument cluster HUD harness connector and the trip calculator harness connector?

  1. Repair the open, the poor connection, or the short to B+ in CKT 811.
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Replace the trip calculator. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .
  2. Inspect the system.

  1. Replace the instrument cluster head-up display (HUD). Refer to Head Up Display Module Replacement .
  2. Inspect the system.
