Condition

Action

There is an audible noise after a power steering system check.

  1. Allow the engine compartment to cool.
  2. Operate the vehicle at idle.
  3. Ensure the vehicle reaches operating temperature.
  4. Listen for the noise.

Refer to Power Steering System Test or Power Steering Pump Replacement .

The fluid level is low due to one of the following conditions:

    • Improper initial fill of the power steering system
    • Power steering system leak
  1. Inspect the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Test .
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Check the power steering fluid level. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .

There is air in the power steering fluid.

  1. Inspect the power steering fluid.
  2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The pump mounting is loose.

Tighten the pump mounting to specification.

The power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose is grounded out.

  1. Inspect the power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose.
  2. Adjust the power steering gear inlet (pressure) hose for proper mounting and correct clearance. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement or Power Steering Pump Replacement .
