Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L

1. Remove the engine air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls--3.1L.
2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .



3. Remove the compressor hose nut (1) from the condenser.



4. Position the compressor hose aside from the condenser.



5. Remove the compressor hose nut (2) from the accumulator.



6. Position the compressor hose aside from the accumulator.




Important: Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.

7. Remove the bolt and compressor hose at the compressor.
8. Remove the compressor hose assembly.

1. Install the compressor hose assembly.

Important: Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

2. Install the new O-rings onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
3. Install the sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly.




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the compressor hose assembly and bolt at the rear of the compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).




5. Install the compressor hose to the accumulator.



6. Install the compressor hose nut (2) onto the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




7. Install the compressor hose to the condenser.



8. Install the compressor hose nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

9. Install the engine air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls--3.1L.
10. Evacuate and charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
11. Test the component fittings for leaks using J 39400 .

Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.8L

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
2. Remove the engine air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls--3.8L.



3. Remove the compressor hose nut (1) at the condenser.



4. Position the compressor hose aside at the condenser.



5. Remove the compressor hose nut (2) at the accumulator.



6. Position the compressor hose aside at the accumulator.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
8. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine cooling.



9. Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.
10. Remove the nut and the compressor hose assembly at the compressor.
11. Remove the compressor hose assembly.

1. Install the compressor hose assembly.

Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

2. Install new O-ring seals onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly




3. Install the hose assembly to the rear of the compressor.

4. Install the compressor hose assembly nut.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose assembly nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

5. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
6. Lower the vehicle.



7. Install the compressor hose to the accumulator.



8. Install the compressor hose nut (2) the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




9. Install the compressor hose to the condenser.



10. Install the compressor hose nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

11. Install the engine air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls--3.8L.
12. Evacuate and charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
14. Test the component fittings for leaks using J 39400 .
