The front seats are secured to the floor pan by two front hook attachments and two rear bolts installed to nuts welded to the floor pan.
The manually operated two-way front adjusters provides only fore and aft movement of the seat. When the seat adjuster handle located on the front seat is pulled up the seat adjusters unlock permitting travel of the seat. When the seat is in the desired position and the seat adjuster handle is released the seat locks in place.
The power six-way seat adjuster is available for the driver side only. The adjusters are actuated by a three 12V, reversible, permanent magnet motors with a built in circuit breaker. The motors are energized by a metamorphic switch that is bolted on the seat side panel.
The three motors drive the following actuators:
• | The front vertical actuator |
• | The rear vertical actuator |
• | The horizontal actuator |
Rubber mounted grommets are located between the motor and the support. When the adjusters reach the limit of travel, torque is absorbed through the grommets. An overload relay is provided in the circuit. The overload relay opens if excessive stall torque is applied.
The following front seat options are available:
• | The 60/40 split bench seat with armrest |
• | The bucket seat |
The 60/40 split bench seats (1) have front seat back head restraints on the driver and passenger seat backs.
The head restraints can be removed from the seat back by inserting a small rounded tool inside the head restraint support tube and releasing the locking tab.
The seat cushions and backs have foam cushions, which fit the following contours:
• | The contour of the seat back frame |
• | The designed contour of the seat cushion frame |
The 60/40 split bench seat has separate seat adjusters. The driver seat is the 60 percent side and the passenger seat is the 40 percent side.
The 60/40 split bench seat is equipped with a reclining mechanism on both the driver's and the passenger's side. The recliner lever is located on the outboard side of the seat cushion. When the lever is pulled upward, the spring loaded dual linear reclining unit that is located in the cushion frame is released. The release of the reclining unit allows the seat back to be pushed forward or rearward.
Caution: Do not try to change the designed seat position by changing the seat adjuster-to-floor pan anchor placement or the seat adjuster-to-seat frame anchor placement. Changing the designed seat position could affect the safe performance of the seat and cause personal injury.
Bucket seats (1) are equipped with manual reclining mechanisms. An optional six-way power seat adjuster is available for the driver side only.
The Pontiac coupe front seats are equipped with inertia seat back locks. This system allows the seat back to fold forward without requiring the occupant to release a locking lever for access to the rear seat area.
The seat back inertia locking system locks the front seat backs in the rest position when the following conditions occur:
A release lever allows manual release of the seat back lock when the vehicle is in the nose down position. The release lever is located at the lower rear outboard corner of the seat back.
The Pontiac coupe passenger front seats are equipped with an E/Z entry device. The following steps actuate the device in an unoccupied seat:
In order to return the seat to its original position, return the seat back to its rest position and slide the entire seat rearward. This action will engage the adjuster.
