The sliding window panel controls the entry of water at the seal. If the window panel is correctly adjusted, the fit between the weather strip and the roof is snug.

Complete the following steps in order to test the fit:

  1. Insert a piece of paper between the roof and the weather-strip.
  2. Close the window.
  3. Pull out the paper.

If you detect some resistance when you pull out the paper, then the fit is correct. A minimal gap is necessary to ensure that the water to the sunroof drain hoses is not excessive. Excessive gap clearance may cause objectionable wind noise.

Adjust the height and centering of the window. Refer to Sunroof Window Height and Opening Fit Adjustment .

A drain trough in the sunroof module provides drainage. The trough encircles the sliding window panel and leads to drain hoses that are located in each corner of the housing. A drain channel spans the rear of the sunroof module and directs water into the trough. The front drain hoses are routed down the windshield pillars and out the center of each pillar between the upper and lower door hinges. The rear drain hoses are routed down the C-pillars.

Before you make any adjustments, confirm complaints of a wet headlining or other water leaks. Verify that the draining system is not plugged or disconnected. Use a small container in order to pour water into the module housing drain trough. If the water flow is restricted, use compressed air in order to blow out any material that is plugging the drain system. Test the system again.

Complete the following steps in order to determine if the drain hoses are disconnected without removing the headliner:

  1. Remove the sunroof control switch.
  2. Remove the sunroof opening trim ring around the sunroof opening.
  3. Lower the headliner as needed.
