Important: Use the J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit when a diagnostic procedure requires inspecting or probing.

Use of the adapter prevents damage to the terminal. Use of the adapter also indicates if the contact tension is sufficient. If the contact tension seems incorrect, refer to Checking Terminal Contact.

Inspect the vehicle for the UA6 theft deterrent option.

Is the vehicle equipped with the UA6 theft deterrent option?

Inspect the vehicle for body control module (BCM) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to Reading DTCs in BCM.

Are there any DTCs present?

Check the HORN fuse for an open.

Is the HORN fuse open?

  1. Remove the horn relay.
  2. Replace the HORN fuse.

Is the HORN fuse open again?

  1. Remove the horn relay.
  2. Using a test light, frontprobe between one of the horn relay 740 circuits and ground. Refer to Fuse Block Schematics for terminal location.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the horn assembly connector.
  2. With a test light, frontprobe between the horn relay circuit 29 and B+. Refer to Fuse Block Schematics for terminal location.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Leave the test light in the same location.
  2. Disconnect the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C3.

Place the horn relay back in the underhood accessory wiring junction block.

Is the HORN fuse open again?

  1. Reconnect the horn assembly connector.
  2. Press the horn switch.

Using a test light, frontprobe between the other horn relay circuit 740 and ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Using a test light, frontprobe between the horn relay terminals circuit 28 and circuit 740.
  2. Press the horn switch while observing the test light.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Refer to Disabling the SIR System for service procedure.
  2. Remove the horn switch from the steering wheel.
  3. Leave the test light connected between the horn relay terminals circuit 28 and circuit 740.
  4. Connect a 5A fused jumper from ground to the spring loaded terminal leading towards the underhood accessory wiring junction block.

Does the test light illuminate?

Check for a poor connection at the switch ground in the steering wheel.

Momentarily connect a 5A fused jumper between the horn relay terminals for circuit 29 and circuit 740.

  1. Place the horn relay back in the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  2. Disconnect the horn assembly connector.
  3. With a test light, frontprobe between the horn connector terminal B and ground.
  4. Press the horn switch while observing the test light.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Using a test light, backprobe the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C3 terminal A7 and ground.
  2. Press the horn switch while observing the test light.
