DEFINITION: The BCM sounds the key in ignition reminder when one or more of the following conditions are present:

    • The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
    • The driver's door is closed.
    • The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

  1. Ensure that the IP dimmer switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Lower the driver's window in order to prevent a lockout.
  4. Close all of the vehicle doors.

Are the courtesy lights OFF?

  1. Remove the key from the ignition key cylinder.
  2. Use a test light in order to probe between B+ and the BCM connector C2 terminal D2.

Is the test light off?

  1. Ensure that the test light is connected.
  2. Disconnect C201.

The key in ignition reminder is always ON due to a malfunction between the BCM and the driver's door lock ajar switch. Refer to Interior Lamps System Check in Lighting Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

Replace the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Floor Shift) (Column Shift) in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Repair the short to ground in circuit 80.

    • Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
    • Install any connectors or components that were removed.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
    • Remove the MALL PGM fuse.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
        The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type that is installed on the vehicle.
    • Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the OFF position, and then, back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any stored DTC's.
