The BCM sounds the fasten seat belt reminder chime for 6 seconds when the ignition switch is turned from the OFF position to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt fastened. The BCM turns on the fasten belts indicator lamp in the instrument cluster for 70 seconds when the ignition switch is turned from the OFF position to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt fastened.

  1. Turn the IP dimmer to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the MALL PGM fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  5. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type that is installed on the vehicle. Refer to Body Control Module Diagnostic Information in Body Control System.

  6. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the OFF position, and then back to the ACC position.
  7. The BCM sounds any stored DTC's.

  8. Fasten and release the driver's seat belt.

Does the chime sound once when the driver's seat belt is fastened?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Install the MALL PGM fuse.
  3. Ensure that the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position while observing the fasten belts indicator and listening for the chime.

Does the fasten seat belt reminder chime for 4-8 seconds and the indicator turn ON for 63-77 seconds?

  1. Fasten the driver's seat belt.
  2. Use a test light in order to probe between the B+ and the BCM connector C2 terminal D1.

Does the test light illuminate?

With the test light connected, disconnect the driver's seat belt switch electrical connector.

Does the test light illuminate?

The malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for additional information regarding the operation of the fasten seat belt reminder and the indicator lamp.

Replace the driver's seat belt buckle. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front in Seatbelts.

Repair the short to ground in circuit 238.

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Install any connectors or components that were removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  5. Remove the MALL PGM.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  7. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type that is installed on the vehicle.

  8. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the OFF position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any stored DTC's.
