Steering Wheel Controls Inoperative One or Both Switches

  1. Using a test light, backprobe between connector C205 terminal A to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch on.

Is the test light on?

Go to Step 3

Repair poor connection, open, or short to ground in circuit 843.

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Disconnect C205.
  2. Connect a DMM between C205 (female side) terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the left and the right steering wheel control buttons, one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the list below:
  5. • For the right side buttons:
       - Volume Up: 1270ohms
       - Volume Down: 1564ohms
       - Play: 1912ohms
       - Mute: 2387ohms
    • For the left side buttons:
       - Seek Up: 3102ohms
       - Seek Down: 4282ohms
       - AM/FM: 6652ohms
       - Preset: 13,632ohms

Do all of the resistance values approximately equal the values above?

  1. Remove the inflator module.
  2. Connect a DMM between the radio control switch pigtail harness connector terminal A and terminal C.
  3. Press each of the steering wheel control buttons, one at a time.
  4. Compare the approximate resistance values to the list below:
  5. • For the right side buttons:
       - Volume Up: 1270ohms
       - Volume Down: 1564ohms
       - Play: 1912ohms
       - Mute: 2387ohms
    • For the left side buttons:
       - Seek Up: 3102ohms
       - Seek Down: 4282ohms
       - AM/FM: 6652ohms
       - Preset: 13,632ohms

Do all the resistance values approximately equal those above?

Replace the left or the right radio control switch. Refer to Steering Wheel Control Switches Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.

  1. Using a test light, probe between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch on.

Is the test light on?

Go to Step 8

Repair short to B+ on circuit 1796.

Is the repair complete?

Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the radio harness connector C2 terminal 14 and ground.

Is the resistance measured same as the specified value?

Go to Step 11

Repair short to ground in circuit 1796.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect for poor connection or open in circuit 1796.

Is there a poor connection or open in circuit 1796?
