Rear Wheel Spindle Rod Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Important: Use a transmission jack or suitable hoist stands to prop the rear suspension support.

  4. Lower the rear suspension support to gain clearance to the rear wheel spindle front rod to knuckle bolt. Refer to Support Replacement .
  5. Remove the rear wheel spindle front rod to knuckle bolt and nut.
  6. Remove the nut from the rear wheel spindle front rod at the rear suspension support.
  7. Push the rear wheel spindle front rod to knuckle bolt forward enough to provide rear wheel spindle front rod removal clearance.
  8. Remove the rear wheel spindle front rod.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear wheel spindle front rod.
  2. Install the rear wheel spindle front rod to the rear suspension support bolt.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rear wheel spindle front rod to the rear suspension support nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel spindle front rod to the rear suspension support nut to 140 N·m (103 lb ft).

  6. Install the rear suspension support. Refer to Support Replacement .
  7. Connect the rear wheel spindle front rod to the knuckle.
  8. Install the rear wheel spindle front rod to the knuckle bolt.
  9. Install the rear wheel spindle front rod to knuckle retaining nut.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel spindle front rod to knuckle nut to 150 N·m (110 lb ft).

  11. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Adjust the wheel toe angle. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.

Rear Wheel Spindle Rod Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Important: Use a transmission jack or suitable hoist stands to prop the rear suspension support .

  4. Lower the rear suspension support to gain clearance for the rear wheel spindle rear rod-to-knuckle bolt. Refer to Support Replacement .
  5. Remove the rear wheel spindle rear rod-to-knuckle bolt, nut, and washer.
  6. Remove the rear wheel spindle rear rod nut at the rear suspension support.
  7. Push the rear wheel spindle rear rod-to-knuckle bolt forward enough to provide rear wheel spindle rear rod removal clearance.
  8. Remove the rear wheel spindle rear rod.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear wheel spindle rear rod to the rear suspension support.
  2. Push the rear wheel spindle rear rod retaining bolt through the rear wheel spindle rear rod bushing.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   4. Install the rear wheel spindle rear rod to the rear suspension support nut.

    Tighten the rear wheel spindle rear rod to the rear suspension support nut to 140 N·m (103 lb ft).

  6. Install the rear suspension support. Refer to Support Replacement .
  7. Install the rear wheel spindle rear rod to knuckle bolt and nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel spindle rear rod to knuckle retaining nut to 150 N·m (110 lb ft).

  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Adjust the wheel toe angle. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
