Exhaust Muffler Insulator, Hanger, and Bracket Replacement Muffler Front Hanger Bracket
- The exhaust system uses
several different hangers. Insulators are used in conjunction with the hangers
to support the exhaust system.
- The exhaust muffler front hanger bracket is welded during assembly.

Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Notice: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic
converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement
at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees
up or down.
- Suitably support the exhaust system.
- Remove
the exhaust pipe rear hanger insulator from the exhaust pipe rear hanger
bracket.
- Remove the exhaust pipe rear hanger screw.
- Remove the exhaust pipe rear hanger bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install
the exhaust pipe rear hanger bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust
pipe rear hanger screw.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust pipe rear hanger screw to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust pipe rear hanger insulator to the exhaust
pipe rear hanger bracket.
- Remove the support from the exhaust system.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Inspect the exhaust system for leaks and underbody contact.
