    Object Number: 201375 Size: SH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Disconnect the battery (positive) cable.
  3. Remove the nut that attaches the underhood electrical center to the strut tower stud. Place the underhood electrical center aside for access.
  4. Remove the battery hold down retainer. Refer to Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement or Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement .
  5. L67 only. Remove the wiring harness over the battery from the retainer at the upper radiator support for access.
  6. Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery adjustment.

  7. Adjust the battery for access.
  8. Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery insulator removal.

  9. Remove the battery insulator.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 201375 Size: SH

Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery insulator installation.

  1. Install the battery insulator.
  2. Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery adjustment.

  3. Return the battery to the proper position.
  4. L67 only. Install the wiring harness over the battery to the retainer at the upper radiator support.
  5. Install the battery hold down retainer. Refer to Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement or Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement .
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the underhood electrical center and the nut to the strut tower stud.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  9. Connect the battery (positive) cable.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the battery (positive) cable terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  11. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
