Removal Procedure

Caution: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.

Caution: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.

    Important: To prevent possible shearing of the rubber bushings loosen the bolts on the engine struts before swinging the struts.

  1. Remove the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement and Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Replacement and Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  2. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  3. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector.

  5. Remove the cooling fan mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the cooling fans.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cooling fans.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the cooling fan mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the cooling fan mounting bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
  6. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  7. Install the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement and Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Replacement and Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  8. Inspect the cooling fan motors for proper operation.
